Areas of Practice

James’s journey to practicing law came by way of the University of Iowa and Dana College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1998.  Following graduation, he took a job with an insurance company in Des Moines, handling injury claims, managing coverage questions and negotiating loss settlements with claimants.  In his daily efforts at the insurance company, James developed a desire to make sure good people better understood the totality of their circumstance. He saw a need for good representation of good people.

After nearly three years working in the insurance industry, James decided to make a change.  He returned home from work one day, ordered the Law School Admission Test materials and enrollment packet, and sat for the L.S.A.T. weeks later.  Shortly after he received his results, he was admitted to Drake Law School. In the fall of 2001, he resigned from the insurance company and enrolled at Drake and earned his J.D.  In 2004, he began using his newly acquired legal knowledge, litigation skills and techniques, and his personal passion and life experience to provide quality legal service to people across Iowa.

James has dedicated his practice to representing good people who have found themselves in bad situations.  He finds the best outcomes, the best characteristics and the best results in people and their circumstances.  He helps you strategically resolve your problems. Whether you are facing a license suspension due to a traffic matter, have been accused of a crime that could cost your job or freedom, or you are attempting to navigate a resolution to an injury matter, he handles your problems effectively, while answering questions and explaining the process.  He listens, offers his guidance and provides you with options. He is dedicated to a good client experience.

Since 2004, James has expanded his practice and is now licensed to practice in Iowa and Missouri.  He is also licensed in Federal District Court and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has handled in excess of a thousand cases, including high profile criminal matters and various personal injury matters across Iowa and in Missouri.  He has successfully tried cases in State and Federal court, including complex multiple party litigation. With his client-centered approach to the law, legal knowledge and life experience, James brings a common-sense persona to litigation and provides resolution directed strategy, which supports a proven track record of success.

In his representation of you, James will provide straightforward answers and won’t make empty promises.  If you have questions and want answers about criminal allegations or if you have been injured and want to know your options, contact James to set up a strategy session.
